From the 7th until the 23rd of November, 2012, Sarah and Shannon will be travelling to India to serve alongside a team of 8-10 women (and one man) in support of an organization called Harvest India. Our team will be flying into Chennai (Madras), and serving in the rural areas of Tenali and Pedappuram (both in South India).
While we are there, we will be hosting two retreats (one for pastor's wives and one for women who Harvest India is helping to bring out of prostitution), and financially supporting the drilling of at least one new well. Given the culture of India and the always-varying needs of Harvest India, we also look forward to serving in whatever capacity is needed at the local orphanage, the elementary school, the Ashraya Women’s Home, an Elderly Home, and the Red Light Ministry.
The possibilies are endless, but in addition to our formal ministries with pastor’s wives and women formerly in prostitution, we may find ourselves providing food for children living on the streets, visiting with the elderly or with individuals suffering from leprosy, training and encouraging students (future pastors!) at the Bible school, teaching English, or even hosting village outreach meetings (aka village party time)!
Now, the part you’ve been waiting for... We need your help!
We deeply appreciate your prayers for us (and our team, and the people we'll be ministering with/to in India) as we prepare for, travel to and return home from India. If you would like to pray more specifically, please check out the "Pray With Us" section of this site -- we'll be posting updates and new prayer requests frequently.
We also need your financial support. Individually, we each need to raise about $2000 to cover the costs associated with our flights and host fees (accommodation and food as we serve alongside Harvest India). As a team, we are also hoping to raise enough money to cover the costs of the retreats that we are hosting. These funds will be used to provide travel, accommodations, food and supplies for each of the women who attend as well as to cover other administrative expenses associated with the retreats themselves. You can donate via the paypal link on the right-hand column or you can support us by purchasing Preserves for Providence.
